St. Alcuin's academic philosophy is based on Montessori principles in the Lower and Elementary Schools, serving students ages 18 months through 6th grade.  Montessori principles rely on core values that guide the daily practice of the school, focusing on independent learning activities, developmental curriculum, and a respectful community of learners engaged within a carefully prepared environment.

The Middle School is designed for 7th and 8th graders and is guided by the core values of the Montessori approach, and the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme (MYP).  This combination of unique philosophies and internationally recognized academic standards offers an environment in which the middle school student can grow in knowledge and personal responsibility. The IB Program provides a thorough study of various disciplines including language, humanities, sciences, mathematics, technology, arts, and physical education.  By emphasizing inter-disciplinary studies across traditional academic, social, and international boundaries, students develop the capacity for critical thinking and compassionate action in a complex world.
