Among the many accomplishments in our history, a few are particularly notable:

  • Largest "single roof" Montessori campus in the country and largest student body with over 500 students

  • First school in Dallas to attain recognition from the Association Montessori Internationale (AMI)

  • One of the first schools in the country to have a toddler program

  • Leader in creating the accreditation standards for Montessori schools in Texas

  • First Montessori school in Dallas to become part of the Independent Schools Association of the Southwest (ISAS), the regional accrediting organization for all independent schools

  • Establishment of the Montessori Training and Research Center of Dallas, and support of the training of Montessori teachers from all over the world

  • International Baccalaureate Program in Middle School

St. Alcuin Montessori School is named after Alcuin (735-802) who was born into a high ranking-family near the east coast of England. As Headmaster of Cathedral School in nearby York, he developed the school's library and eventually built the school into one of the finest in Europe. Ultimately, Alcuin became the private tutor to Charlemagne's two sons, and wrote a variety of elementary texts in arithmetic, geometry and astronomy. His most lasting legacy was his creation of the Carolingian miniscule hand, a form of handwriting that eventually became our modern-day lower case cursive.  His contribution was needed to normalize writing throughout Charlemagne's vast empire, since many in the empire could not read the writing of the scribes.

As to the issue of Alcuin's sainthood, he was not officially canonized by the Catholic Church, but rather so designated by devoted followers in recognition of his personal manner and his significant educational contributions in Europe.
