The International Baccalaureate (IB) Middle Years Program (MYP) is an internationally recognized curriculum governed by the International Baccalaureate Organization in Geneva, Switzerland.  The organization originated over thirty years ago in Europe as an effort by international schools to assure quality educational standards. Today, the organization uses the talents of educators around the world to continuously update curriculum, train teachers, and evaluate programs. Currently, there are approximately 132 Middle Years Programmes in the United States.

The Middle Years Program at St. Alcuin offers an educational approach that embraces yet transcends traditional school subjects.  It offers interdisciplinary teaching in the disciplines of Spanish, language, humanities, technology, science, mathematics/algebra, physical education and the arts. The hallmark is an 8th grade SAIL Project (St. Alcuin Independent Learning) selected, researched, and presented by each student at the end of the year in a final display of academic study and preparation. There is a continual emphasis on community and service, health and social education and the environment.

St. Alcuin began its three year application process is 2004, when it received candidacy school status.  The process continued with the Self Study and Application process in 2005 - 2006, followed by the On-Site Visit and Application for Authorization stage, in preparation for the final designation as an International Baccalaureate World School in 2007.
