The Toddler Program was established in response to Dr. Montessori's obsevations indicating that the most important period in a human's educational and emotional development is the first six years of life. Our commitment to these important years is clearly evident in this specialized program designed to serve the needs of the toddler. Toddler classrooms at St. Alcuin address the needs of this early developmental period by focusing on the processes of independent exploration, learning, and, most importantly, the joy of discovering the world.
Teachers guide in this early developmental period by helping children focus on practical life skills, sensorial exploration, language development, investigation of the natural world through science, developing fine and gross motor skills and the appreciation of art and music. Included in the Toddler classroom are directed group experiences including songs, stories, snacks, outdoor play, and movement.
